Google Edition - Samsung Galaxy S4 vs HTC One
Posted: May 30 2013
During the D11 Conference Sundar Pichai, SVP of Android, announced that Google will be selling a Google Edition HTC One for $599. This will be similar to the Google Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4 (announced at Google I/O), in that it will be a stock android phone minus all the Samsung or HTC Bloatware.
Google Edition versions of phones are now a large priority for the company. Their vision is to make Android the operating system across all mobile devices. If this trend continues it could be a game changer for mobile manufactures. Even though stock and manufacture versions of the phone both run a version of an android operating system, but you can imagine a future where you can load any operating system onto any device. And if major operating system makers start conforming to a single device architecture the mobile landscape would never be the same again.
Seems wild... and the last company to let it happen is probably the one that likes to farm fruit in China.
Both the Google Edition Samsung Galaxy S4 (16GB @ $649) and HTC One (32GB @ $599) will be available on the Google Play Store June 26th.
